Rehearsal Sync
Rehearsal Sync privacy policy
Last updated October 14, 2026
Draft: some operator details are still placeholders and the text has not been reviewed.
This is the privacy policy for the Rehearsal Sync Android app, provided by Yuval Herman, trading as Better Musician. It records and copies audio, so it explains in detail what the app does. Our website has its own policy at https://better-musician.com/privacy.
The short version
- Your recordings stay on your phone and, if you choose, go to your own Google Drive.
- We, the developer, run no servers and never receive your recordings, your Google account details or anything else.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking.
What the app does with your data
Recording. When you tap Record, the app uses the microphone and saves the audio to your phone in the Recordings/RehearsalSync folder, as WAV or MP3. A notification shows while it records. The microphone is used only while you are recording.
Syncing from a recorder. When you plug in a USB recorder, or choose its folder with Android's file picker, the app reads the audio files from it so it can copy them.
Uploading to Google Drive. If you sign in with Google, the app uploads audio files to a folder in your Google Drive. It asks for the "drive.file" permission, which lets it work only with files and folders the app itself creates or that you open with it. It cannot see the rest of your Drive. Uploads can be limited to Wi-Fi.
Sharing. You can share recordings through Android's share sheet, which sends the files to the app or person you pick. You can also have the app share its Drive folder or files by link, or with email addresses you enter. Google may email those people about the share if you turn that option on.
Cleaning up. If you set a number of days, the app deletes a recording from your phone that many days after it has been uploaded. By default nothing is deleted.
What is stored on your phone
- The recordings.
- Your settings, such as Wi-Fi only, file format, Drive folder, and the email addresses you entered for sharing.
- The email address of the Google account you signed in with, so the app can show who is signed in.
- A list of which files have been uploaded.
What leaves your phone
Audio files, their names, and any sharing addresses you entered are sent to the Google Drive service (googleapis.com) under your own Google account. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy. The app does not contact any other server.
Permissions and why
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To record rehearsals. |
| Foreground service (microphone, data sync) | To keep recording and uploading when the screen is off. |
| Notifications | To show recording and upload progress. |
| Internet | To upload to Google Drive. |
| USB host | To read files from a USB recorder. |
| Vibrate | A short buzz when a recording has been saved. |
Access to folders on your phone or on a recorder goes through Android's file picker, so the app only sees what you select.
Signing out and removing access
Sign out in the app's Settings. You can also remove its access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Files already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
Backups
The app opts out of Android's device backup.
Recording other people
You are responsible for having the right to record and share a rehearsal. Please make sure the people you record know about it where the law requires that.
Children
The app is not designed for children and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date below will change. Questions: Yuval Herman, trading as Better Musician, support@better-musician.com.
